Cognni goes to great lengths to ensure that no instances of your actual information are stored on Cognni’s servers. This is true for both of the inputs required to generate insights and detect risks; the metadata regarding the users and files stored with your Cloud Service Provider’s (CSPs), and the contents of your organization’s files.

To protect your metadata, Cognni translates this information into metadata keys that protect the specific names associated with your organization. Your actual metadata is only used to display specific entities on to you in your Cognni account, so you can identify and investigate incidents.

File contents are subject to a more rigorous process before storage with Cognni. First, they are put through a Content Analyzer and transformed into an Information Recognition Identifier (IRI). These cannot be reverse engineered to reconstruct any files' contents. The IRIs are then combined with the metadata keys in Cognni’s Information Intelligence Processor, where Information Labels, Insights, and Incidents are generated and applied to the metadata keys.

During the formulation of Information Labels, Insights, and Incidents, only metadata keys and Cognni-generated IRIs are utilized, ensuring minimal risk to the data created and held by your organization.

From there, the IRIs are stored, alongside the metadata keys and attached insights, with Cognni for retrieval by the web application.
